On August 1, after Morgan had left us and Bob had returned, we all went to Warwick Castle for the day.
Bob was enthused, but I wasn't sure what to expect. Warwick has been privately owned by Merlin Entertainments Group (formerly known as The Tussauds Group) since 2007, and I was a bit worried it would be like going to a sensationalized amusement park. Or Ye Olde Renaissance Faire or similar.
I tend to prefer the down-at-heel gentility of properties owned by The National Trust. :)
However, I was wrong! I guess it is a little bit like Ye Olde Renaissance Faire, in that you can participate in activities rather than just shuffling through the castle to look at things, but the owners have spent over £6,000,000 in the last ten years alone on restoration projects, and it's a lovely (and very fun) place to visit with the family.
And where else are you going to see Oliver Cromwell's actual death mask, or a working trebuchet in action?
