Tonight our last summer book club meets at my house. For June we read Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen, and for July we read The Inimitable Jeeves by P.G. Wodehouse, and for August we read The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge.
(Last summer we met every two weeks, but it felt a bit much, although the books were great. So this summer I thought once a month was enough, and it was. It has been exactly the right amount of book club this summer, I think.)
My favorite Austen novel is Persuasion (which we read last summer), and my favorite Goudge novel is The Scent of Water (which we were going to read but then skipped last summer, but which perhaps we'll read next summer), but The Inimitable Jeeves is actually my favorite Wodehouse novel, so there is really no rhyme or reason to the exact choices, other than that they feel summery to me, somehow. I want it to be fun each year here, and carefree, and not like homework in the least bit. :)
For treats tonight I made the chocolate chip scones again, because they always taste good, and some people are afraid of eggs right now, and these don't have any in them.
Bob is hoping for leftovers. :)
