Here is a little craft I thought up yesterday when my sister and I were at Ikea. I told her, "I thought of a CRAFT!" and then I thought, maybe I should say "I thought of a 'craft'" and use air quotes, because there is not much to it. :D
You'll need a little white ceramic dish (I bought that little plate above at Ikea for $3) and some scrapbook rub-on letters. (If you didn't want to do the word "key," you could use a picture of a key, like these rub-ons here. I think lots of keys lined up next to each other would be really cute.)
Rub the letters onto the plate. Make sure you push down hard on top of each letter as you're rubbing it on, so that it doesn't slip. (Bigger letters are easier to rub on.) If you make a mistake, use your fingernail to scrape the letter off, and start over.
Now you have a place to throw your keys when you walk in the front door. :) In my house, storage that is open (no lid) and labeled seems to get used.
Eventually, the scraping of your keys against the rub-ons might wear it off, but I've put rub-ons through the dishwasher before, and they didn't come off. So they're actually pretty tough.
