Praise him, sun and moon
Praise him, all you shining stars! (Isaiah 148:3)
Did you know that 2009 is the International Year of Astronomy? It's the 400th anniversary of Galileo's use of a telescope to study the night sky.
Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice, and let them say among the nations, “The Lord reigns!” (1 Chronicles 16:31)
The photos and music in this CNN slideshow of Hubble telescope photos gave me goosebumps. I have watched it about ten times. :) Maybe fifteen. It gave me a quick and powerful dose of humility.
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him? (Psalm 8:3)
And it made my heart worship the mighty and sovereign God of the universe.
Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:“Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?
Dress for action like a man;
I will question you, and you make it known to me.
Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell me, if you have understanding.
Who determined its measurements—surely you know!
Or who stretched the line upon it?
On what were its bases sunk,
or who laid its cornerstone,
when the morning stars sang together
and all the sons of God shouted for joy?" (Job 38:1-7)
