On the way back from Cambria, we stayed overnight in Lompoc, to break up the drive. Lompoc has a nice Embassy Suites with a good pool. Lompoc is not necessarily a tourist destination (pleasedon'tbemadatmelompocchamberofcommerce, butthereisnothingtodo), although my brother-in-law said it has a great golf course. And during the summer there is a flower festival, because the Lompoc Valley is a flower-growing valley. We were there a month or so too early to get the full effect of an entire valley full of flowers (it looks like a beautiful patchwork quilt when it's in bloom), but we did find a few fields of early bloomers. (We also saw a TON of artichokes.)
We did manage to catch a viewing of Monsters v. Aliens, however. :) So that pretty much wraps up our little vacation up the coast.
