To Die For Crockpot Roast
1 beef roast, any kind (I buy the kind that has a "pot roast" label on it. No bones.)
1 pkg dried brown gravy mix
1 pkg dried Italian salad dressing mix
1 package dried ranch salad dressing mix (don't accidentally buy the ranch dip mix)
1/2 cup water
Place the beef roast in the crockpot. Pour 1/2 cup water over it. Mix together the dried mixes in a bowl and sprinkle them over the roast. Cook on low for 7 to 9 hours. (I've cooked it for 10 and it was fine. Much longer, and it gets dry.)
Everybody in my family is crazy for this. This is unusual. :)
I usually serve this with boiled red potatoes and a salad or green beans. You can throw the potatoes into the Crock Pot with the roast, but they turn brown and taste just like the roast, so I like to fix them separately. I like to cook the roast all by itself.
This is also good cold the next day as-is or on a sandwich.
Rather than buy individual envelopes of the Good Seasons Italian and Hidden Valley Ranch dried salad dressing mixes, I buy the four-envelopes-to-a-box store-brand versions (one box of Italian and one box of ranch, which equals four roasts worth), to make this more economical in the long run. I also try to buy the roast itself on sale. :)
